Plot:

Vampires, werewolves, fairies, demons and hybrids are some of the habitants of the academy Bonfire, a place where they teach paranormals about their power and auto control.

The academy has been open for many years but, thanks to a big fire created by two brothers, the place was close for two years more or less. This story takes place just after the academy’s reparations have been made.

Characters:

Cordelia (Demon Princess): Principal female character of this story, she’s starting her third year in the academy together with her boyfriend, and she plays tennis.

Generally, I don’t usually like adolescent female protagonists because I feel they’re always in trouble and it’s their own fault. Cordelia wasn’t the exception, but there was one scene that really made me feel mad at her because she kissed Jagger just after she meets him!

If she hadn’t had a boyfriend I wouldn’t feel so angry about it, but I don’t like things like that. Also, I don’t understand how a demon princess who suffers attacks every 5 minutes doesn’t finish learning how to defend herself.

Jagger (Winter Fairy): He’s the president of the students’ council and the captain of the ski team.

He was very useful in several missions and he’s not a bad fairy because he helped Faustine a lot in feeling welcomed. On the other hand, I didn’t consider him interesting or sexy. The truth is that he was in dialogue and personality just like Quinn and vice versa.

Quinn: He’s a demon and Cordelia’s boyfriend like i said before. I didn’t like him but he didn’t deserve to be “betrayed” by Cordelia. I don’t like to read book with love triangles and it’s worse if they start to have an affair. For most of the book Quinn was “helping” Cordelia by babysitting Faustine or simply being part of several missions that planned Cordelia to discover the truth about what happened when some guys attacked her.

Faustine (Demon-Human Hibrid): She’s King Sebastian’s daughter and this is her first year in Bonfire

Usually when a character from a book cries way too much and looks weak compared to other characters makes me feel desperate to the point i just want the out of the book for good. Fortunately, I didn’t fee any of that with Faustine. Why?

-She’s only twelve years old and, even though; she’s described as a teenager I picture her like a child

-She’s alone! Is the only hybrid with human characteristics that the academy has ever had

-I think that by only having twelve years of life, the author describe her preoccupations and feelings very well

Romance:

The love triangle was a disaster and left me with the impression that Cordelia was senseless and selfish. Why? Well, the paranormals in here have what they called a “synchronization” which happens when they find their soul mate. Cordelia founded her soul mate in the academy, but she also had a boyfriend. Now…the logic thing to do would be to pick one (her actual boyfriend or her soul mate), but no, she decided to ignore all the synchronization signals because she thought that both boys belonged to her! So, she stayed with both but with no one at the same time (if that’s even possible). I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t like those techniques.

Well, I don’t like books that describe unnecessary things like which make up she wore or not, how tall is a mountain, etc etc. Furthermore, the book spent describing us back and forth Faustine’s tests and Cordelia’s attack, the truth is, I expected something different and cooler. I also have BIG issues with the romance department, she doesn’t deserve any of them and she doesn’t know how to handle things even in the end. On the other hand, some ideas were interesting and it had so much potential to be something cool.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
